Need help finding an iPhone 17 Pro Max case

I just upgraded and the case I ordered for my iPhone 17 Pro Max doesn’t fit right around the buttons and camera. I need help finding a protective case that actually fits well, feels good in hand, and works with MagSafe because I don’t want to waste money on another bad one.

I’d return the bad one and stick to brands with a good fit record on new iPhone launches. Early no-name cases miss button placement all the time.

Good picks:
Apple Silicone Case with MagSafe. Best fit. Buttons line up right. Good MagSafe strength. Grip is decent. It picks up lint.
Spigen Ultra Hybrid MagFit or Tough Armor MagFit. Better drop protection. Precise cutouts. Usually great button feel. Price is fair.
Caudabe Sheath. Great in-hand feel. Strong grip without being sticky. Strong MagSafe. Slim but protective.
Mous Limitless. More protection than most. Good magnets. Bit heavier.
OtterBox Symmetry with MagSafe. Safe pick if you drop your phone a lot. Bulkier.

If camera lip and button click matter most, I’d go Caudabe or Spigen. If you want perfect OEM fit, Apple. Check for “built for iPhone 17 Pro Max” on the box, not “compatible with 17 series.” Some sellers get lazy, lol.

I’d add one thing to what @voyageurdubois said: don’t just shop by brand, shop by button design. A lot of cases “fit” but still feel mushy because the side buttons are molded badly. For me that ruins the whole case.

My short list would be:

  • Torras Magnetic Guardian or Ostand if you want strong MagSafe and a nicer hand feel than a lot of hard-shell cases
  • Phone Rebel cases if you want grip + protection without going full brick mode
  • ESR Classic Hybrid with HaloLock if you want cheaper but still decent magnet strength

Tiny disagreement: Apple’s silicone fit is usually great, but I kinda hate how fast it gets grimy and tacky. Looks nice for like… 2 weeks lol.

Also check:

  • raised camera ring that does not block wide-angle edge
  • covered buttons, not giant loose cutouts
  • microfiber inside if you care about back glass
  • actual return policy, becuase early-release cases are a mess

If you want best balance, I’d probly go Torras or Caudabe first.

One angle I’d add beyond what @voyageurdubois mentioned is checking who actually manufactured the case revision. A lot of “iPhone 17 Pro Max” cases shipped before final button tolerances were nailed down, so even decent brands had early batches with sloppy camera lips or weird action/button alignment.

If you want a safer bet, I’d look at Caudabe Sheath, Mous Limitless, or OtterBox Lumen/Defender XT depending on how much bulk you’ll tolerate. Slight disagreement with the Torras-first approach: I like Torras magnets, but some of their finishes can feel a little slick if your hands are dry.

What I’d prioritize:

  • clicky independent button covers
  • MagSafe ring that centers chargers cleanly
  • camera lip that protects without casting shadow in photos
  • side grip texture, not just a smooth matte back
  • bottom cutout symmetry around the port and speaker

If you want pros & cons for the iPhone 17 Pro Max case category in general:

Pros

  • better drop protection than going naked
  • improved grip
  • MagSafe compatibility can be excellent now
  • camera and screen lip protection

Cons

  • many “perfect fit” listings are still recycled from older molds
  • strong magnets sometimes mean more weight
  • thicker corners can make swipes feel cramped
  • some soft-touch finishes get shiny fast

For best fit + feel, I’d personally go Caudabe Sheath first, then Mous if you want more protection, then ESR if budget matters. Avoid ultra-cheap marketplace cases for this model right now. Early fit issues are still everywhere.
